Le Moiré, 2010

Author: Alexandre Estrela

Video projection DVD (PAL), colour, mono loop sound and crystal display.

Inspired by Joris Ivens Pour le Mistral, filmed in 1965, the artist tries to catch the wind, and once captured, he sets it free projecting its image. The video, filmed in Bretagne, shows a palm tree destroyed by the wind. The image is projected on a glass screen painted with white stripes.

The screen is located on a corner, so the images projected conform a close area.

The glass panel subdivides the projection in two different images, creating three surfaces. The movement and sound suggest the formation of wind catches on a corner. The overlap of these images generates a secondary optical effect called "moiré".
