They pertain to the Light Sources series, a great series created by Welling from 1977 to 2005.

These are monochromatic images, many of which are light effects, created by the interpolation of natural light or electrical light with man-made structures that evolve from the representative to the abstract.

Many of the images from Light Sources resemble camera or dark room experiments with superimposed negatives. Some of them are very similar to film frames. For Welling, this work is "a microcosm that I have created, working between abstraction and the representative images”.
