Paula’s birthday party, 1998-2016

Author: Joseph Grigely

Pigment print.

The artist converses with people who can hear and asks them to write what they are saying. These notes are then edited and transformed and turned into art. Although the tablecloth covering the table where Paula celebrated her birthday was useful, on conveying conversations it loses its usefulness and becomes part of the world that is ignored, where the remains we have left on passing through life can be seen.
