Grigely places his trust in writing to replace speech, inviting his interlocutors to note down their questions on cocktail napkins, hotel notepaper, adverts or whatever they have at hand. In 1994 he began to use those notes to create an ingenious series of ironic installations and assemblies of mixed up media that explored the limits of human communication.
