The Temple, 1996

Author: Luc Tuymans

Etching and aquatint on paper, Set of eight engravings, of 80 x 60.5 cm (each), ed. 13/35. Ed. 32 of 35.

His works are full of political and social comments and are focused on important historical events.

He rarely uses colour and his figures are painted with light strokes. The blurry vision reinforces the expressive wealth of the work. Tuymans often works in a series, a method where one image can generate another and where images can be formulated and then reformulated. The images are analyzed in a continuous and distilled manner, and he makes many drawings, photocopies and watercolours before creating the definitive paintings, in oil paint, with great intensity.
