Pigmentary print on Fine Art Baryte paper and sound piece.
Once again, Sophie takes us to historical terrain. It is a universal, anachronistic history that resounds in the current situation in the Middle East and which coexists with the photographer’s own history.
This work shows us a Sumerian poem about the destruction of the abandoned city of Ur (around 2000 BC), engraved in a clay tablet that is preserved today in the Louvre Museum. The poem reveals the destroyed city’s extraordinary contemporary nature today.
A female voice recites the poem in a loop. “People wail” is the leitmotiv of this lament over the destruction of the city of Ur.
