Head of a young woman (Kasia), 2012

Author: Marcin Maciejowski

Oil on canvas.

40 x 30 cm.

He paints from photographs cut out of newspapers and weekly magazines. He gathers the illustrations that interest him or make him laugh, and then transfers them to his canvas. Sometimes he literally copies illustrations and then introduces some modifications: he removes unnecessary details, uses fragments of photographs or changes the format. With regards to inscriptions, he uses one of the fragments of text that appear next to the original photographs. His paintings are distinguished by light sketches and are completed with flat areas of colour. He uses his paintbrush freely in order to create areas of light and highlight important aspects of the characters represented. These characters are represented in the same way that we know them through the media.
