Susan Hiller - After Duchamp

After Duchamp, 2016-2017

Author: Susan Hiller

50 color photographs.

She based her this artwork on a work by Marcel Duchamp "Portrait of Dr. R. Domouchel, 1910" in which Duchamp shows the ancient belief in auras (which are only detectable by clairvoyance). Susan pays tribute to Marcel through this work where she presents a wide variety of photographic portraits that she obtained from the internet. In them we can see a variety of people surrounded by amorphous clouds and variable colored light reminiscent of Duchamp's painting. Normally the auras are more typical of paintings of saints, but Hiller's characters are ordinary people, their auras are created and recorded by computer and photographic equipment.
