Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, 1978.
Lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
He is a Cuban conceptual artist. He studied art at the Higher Institute of Art in Havana, ISA, graduating in 2002.
His works are characterized by a simplicity that borders on the scandalous. For him the simplest is the most conclusive. Use everyday objects and insignificant materials. He trained as a painter, but his work encompasses all media. In his works he reflects on society, consumption and thought, questioning contemporary culture.
He has received various awards such as: the UNESCO prize for the promotion of the arts (2000); Prize for the promotion of the Arts, VII Havana Biennial, DUPP, Havana; the Cartier Award (2008); selected for the Future Generation Art Prize 2010, Kyiv, Ukraine or the Fundación Botín Fine Arts scholarship, Santander (2013) among others.
His individual exhibitions stand out in: Kunstverein Braunschweig (Denmark); XI Biennial of Havana, Kunsthalle Lissabon (Lisbon), Dia Art Foundation (New York) among others.
Most outstanding group exhibitions: Pompidou (Paris), 55th Venice Biennale, 7th, 8th and 10th Havana Biennale, Lyon Biennale, MoMA PS1 (New York), Yokohma Triennial, etc.
