Steegmann Mangrané works with films, virtual reality devices, 2D holograms, sculptures and installations. The artist places the viewer’s physical and censorial dimension at the heart of the project.
Steegmann’s work reflects upon the relationship between culture and nature, and we can find numerous references to the Brazilian tropical forest in it. His early aspirations to become a biologist manifest themselves in works on permutation, mutation and transformation through materials and forms of life. The artist’s interest in biology has led him to analyse complex ecological systems and to introduce the natural world into his work. Branches, trees and insects intertwine in geometric shapes, and abstract motifs engender reflection upon the complex dynamics among the elements around us. The exhibition is characteristic for a change between material and immaterial experiences, extended even more via the specific intervention of the place. Via their transparency, the screens allow for a general yet immediate view.
He lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
